The LíArche Canada Foundation is a not-for-profit charity that raises funds on behalf of LíArche Canada and is committed to transforming the lives of intellectually disabled people in communities across Canada.

Help people like John transform!

If you ever get the chance to visit a LíArche home, youíll see the impact of your support.

Youíll see it in the shining pride of our core members as they achieve their true potential. Youíll see it in the grateful eyes of family members as they recognize the growth and joy in their loved ones who live in a LíArche community.

Youíll see the profound difference your generosity is making - how much itís helping to transform the lives of people with intellectual disabilities.

For most, making a personal visit to one of our homes isnít really practical. And so, I invite you to read this letter instead. In a few moments, Iíll tell you about John ó one of the many people living a happier, more fulfilling life because you care.

Your gift will help us give those who depend on us the chance to build strong relationships, enjoy a sense of belonging and live their very best life.

Thatís exactly, what John is doing ó thanks to your generosity.

Itís been quite a journey for this thoughtful, 48-year old man. You see, John was born with significant physical and intellectual disabilities. When he was a boy and grew too big for his mother, Sarah, to care for alone, she had no choice but to place him in a large institution, hours away from home.

Sarah never gave up on bringing her son back to his hometown. She finally succeeded and found a home for John in a LíArche community when an accessible home opened.

The institution staff was concerned the change would be hard for John. He wasnít used to spending a lot of time with other people. At the institution John filled most of his days wandering through the underground tunnels there, all alone.

But John quickly adapted to his new situation. He enjoyed regular visits with his mom, explored his neighbourhood, joined a day program and became a member at a community pool. He loved home cooked meals and the chance to help around his new house.

But living in a big institution for so long had taken a toll on John. He had a hard time trusting others and struggled with anger management. John doesnít express himself with words so it was hard for others to understand the cause of his distress.

Thatís where you come in. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to find John the professional support he needed. John joined a LíArche Day Program and itís done wonders for him. John has become very sociable. Today, he is the cornerstone of his LíArche home and a rock for his mom and his many friends.

Unfortunately, the cost for providing a Day Program like the one John has benefitted from are high. We need to cover both the cost of participation as well as individualized transportation to and from the inclusive program Ė you see, John is also confined to a wheelchair.

And yet how can we deny individuals with an intellectual disability the chance to transform their lives? John could not have made the progress he has and grown into the person he is today without a program like this

We urgently need your help to give others with an intellectual disability the same opportunities to shine.

Along with Johnís progress through the Day Program, there is another therapy taking place in his life - the therapy of LíArche. Surrounded by love and encouragement, John has moved beyond the confinement and isolation of the institution to a new place of freedom through relationships and belonging.

More than anything, thatís the impact of your support. With your generosity, you open a world of possibilities for those too often forgotten in our society. Please send your special gift today and together weíll give more people like John the chance to transform their lives.

Many Blessings,
